You gents,

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! And all the best in 2005!

The Christmas season certainly had a great kickoff with our get together here at 208 Niagara! A good time had by all. Wooderson and I finished up the weekend by grabbing some grub at the Wheat Sheaf and catching a screening of The Invisibles.

I ended up getting called in the week before Christmas to do a pitch for a Pizza Hut commercial and then we hit Stoney Creek for a visit to Ma and Pa's for Christmas. We are now back in T.O. We are having a quiet week (I have a cold) and I am desepratley trying to find an XBox to rent for the week, but there are none in the video stores around here. We are planning to keep it very low key for New Year's. Hope to rent the last of the LOTR trilogy and cook some lobster!

Hope you and yours are all doing well and can't wait to see you in the new year!

Getting Excited!

Fellas,

I have to say that I am getting excited for Friday night. So far the plan is as follows:

Chief Fussypants and I are going to meet up after work (approximately 6pm) and Sir Rubalot will be in town between 7-8pm. Depending on which way the wind blows, Lady Smurfette could be joining us for the evening.
I figure we will just get down to business and sit around the dining room table. I am planning to get in some food items (that can work for our different cravings throughout the evening) and some beer (any other requests for alchohol?).
Depending on whether we're dancing with Smurfs, chatting with a magic dragon or chilling out with Mister Brown, will probably dictate the activities for the evening. From past experience, our house is a little small to dance with Smurfs, but with a little adjustment I think we could pull it off.

Let's get the chatter going! WHOA!

PS Had a great weekend. Cuppa Xmas party, saw a great band Saturday and on Sunday, chatted with a man who smoked a spliff with Bob Marley on Bob's porch on Hope Road!!!

I know everyone is gearing up for the Xmas season and that is why the blog has been a little stale, but I was wondering when we might be able to get together for a threesome of debauchery!?

I am going to assume that trying to squeeze in a weekend before Xmas is an impossiblium. I know I have a wedding next weekend, but right now, I am free the weekend of Dec 17. Or can we pick a weekend in January now and decide on a location. I think we need to get a little silly! Mutha suckas!

Gents - Anyone dabbling in any new music these days ? I have recently started to listen to...and subsequently really like, David Gray. All pretty mellow....excellent acoustic guitar. Kinda like a modern day Cat Stevens? If you havent already checked him out, I would strongly suggest starting with his album White Ladder. Give it a listen.

So....in a strange turn of events, I AM going to to Mat's wedding...
A Week long cruise that leaves Miami January 16th with stops in Cozumel, The Caymans, Ocho Rios Jamaica (where the wedding will happen) and then back to Miami the following Sunday. Looking forward to it, and a return to the "homeland".

Check out the Carnival Victory.

I'm staying in a room with another buddy of Mat's...a herbsman if you will...

Mat's fitting the bill. All I have to do is get myself to Miami and pay for my drinking.

Sweet.

When Cheap Screws You

Yo boyz,

So I wanted to get an external hard drive, but instead of buying a package deal, I thought I could get a hard drive and a case for cheaper. Turns out I was right. I bought a 160GB HDD from Premier Computers Canada (www.pccanada.com) in Etobicoke as well as an external enclosure for the HDD. Got it home, and the doofus packed the wrong HDD. Took the damn thing back and exchanged it for the right one, got home again, and the piece o' shit enclosure won't deliver power to the hard drive.

So I get on the phone with PC Canada, and tell them they sell shit, and I will be in the next day for a full refund. I hang up, and start removing the hard drive from the enclosure, and the damn thing starts to fall apart on me - no friggin joke. A transitor popped off, and then the IDE cable basically disintegrated on me when I tried to disconnect it from the HDD. Needless to say, I couldn't return it, and had to eat the $50 that it cost me. I went to my local computer store and picked up another enclosure for $80, and it works fine now.

This, on top of the fact that some bastard from the US now has $250 of my money and decided NOT to ship the iPod that they sold me. Turns out I am not the only one this f*cker screwed, either. He signed up on eBay, racked up some positive feedback by selling stuff to other fake accounts, and then buggered off with my money plus at least a few other hundred dollars for some other guy's iPod, and some Tiffany jewelry. My problem is that I didn't go through eBay - s/he claimed to have another iPod available, so I paid for it through PayPal, but not eBay. According to PayPal, they will attempt to recover the money, but it is not guaranteed. I am seriously pissed.

At least if they say things happen in threes, I am done with the bad mojo.

On the plus side, I start a new job in the morning. I am excited. Will let you know how it goes.

So...sadly it looks like I am going to have to kaibosh any November plans. Not quite sure what I was thinking when I agreed to (or suggested) the 3rd weekend in November. Something should have registered with me ? Its Ethans 2nd Birthday that weekend, and although we have nothing major planned other than a little family get together here, it is the Saturday night.
I have also taken on the job of coaching an Atom (9/10 Years old) hockey team here in London which involves pretty much every weekend for the next 18 weeks, so me getting out of London for the next little while is going to be tough. Having said that, it goes without saying we would be more than honoured to have two out of town "uncles" join us for the celebration? Something to think about anyways ?
Hope to try and talk to you both this week.

Well, its almost official, so I might as well let the cat out of the bag.

On Monday, I will be retiring from the world of consulting, and moving to a new job. I am the new Director, Project Management Office for a distribution company in TO. Its a pretty sweet opportunity, so I am happy. It also means, however, that the choco bus will be making its last stop in 2 weeks.

I'll give y'all more deets in person or over the phone to protect my ass in case anyone ever searches the company name and finds out that Slippy works for them and that Slippy posts some pretty interesting (and incriminating) stuff on the Moon Tower.

Never Sausage A Weekend!

Fellas,

Even though Slippy had to leave at 5:30am, it was a heroic effort that made the weekend. We really pulled up our boot straps and got right fucked up as soon as possible after meeting, buying toilet paper, grabbing a 12 and hitting the saudage store! This will forever go down as the "Jack Johnsonville Brat Weekend". There was fucking sausage everywhere. Sausage hanging from my fly, sausage on the BBQ and there was a bunch of other places but I can't remember. And speaking of remembering...Colin gets the damaged brain cell award for not being to remember the name of the band he was watching at the moment when asked by a total stranger!

Yo, fellow fools. I made a few changes to our blog environment, hopefully for the better:

Recent Posts - At left, there is a new section of the left block that links to the 1o latest posts on our blog.

Permalink - Below each post, to the right of the comment link, you will find a link to a permanent url for the post. You can link directly to it in your e-mails or other websites as a permanent record of your contribution to the moontower.

E-mail to a friend - First of all, we have to assume we have friends outside of the 3 of us. If we do, by clicking on the little envelope symbol to the right of the permalink, you can bring up a page that can send the post directly to an e-mail account.

I also found out that we can enable a feature that allows us to e-mail our posts directly to the blog if we are too lazy (or unable) to log into Blogger to post. Lemme know if you would like to "enable" this function. As well, if you have any other requests for features or changes to the blog template, lemme know, or do it yer damn self!

The Politics of Pooping

.

Hey. In an effort to legitimize this little blog of ours, I have decided to post a primer to a discussion revolving around the social aspect of pooping in public places (PPP).

Most males already are familiar with the "rules" regarding accessing urinals in a public setting:

  • When approaching a bank of urinals, use an end unit first

  • Always keep at least one urinal between you and your nearest neighbour

  • If the above is not possible, use a sit-down toilet

  • If the above is not possible, come back later.

But how many of us have broached the subject of PPP? A recent reading of a Jay Pinkerton post on an unfortunate PPP incident got me to thinking. What are the "rules" on pooping? Is there a standard code of conduct? Should we adopt some general practices when dropping our shorts and letting loose processed materials? What constitutes normalcy and decency in the realm of poopdom? Its time to examine the logic of toilet-choosing.

Let's take the easiest case first. You walk into an empty bathroom, pinching a turd. Where do you turn? My recommendation is to take the furthest toilet available, next to the wall. This, of course, is overruled if the door does not shut/lock. No need to share visuals if you are already contributing to the smell-o-factor of the room. My only other caveat is if it is a handicapped unloading zone. You don't park in the handicapped spots at the mall (you don't, do you??), so don't do it in the porcelain palace unless it is your last resort.

Stop, drop, and roll. Don't forget to wash yer hands on the way out.

Now what happens if your first choice for poopin' is taken? As in the peepee rules, take the toilet furthest away. In the event that there are only two available, be comforted knowing there will be at least a few plies of sheet metal between you and that other guy with his pants around his ankles. Obviously, if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction (read: its damn stinky in there), gauge your level of discomfort and come back later if possible.

The last major issue of PPP is around timing. Often, you will be faced with a situation in which you are 2nd (or 3rd) into the log lair, so what is the appropriate behaviour? Logic here surrounds the principle that I don't view PPP as an opportunity to make new friends, and as such, would prefer to not have contact with anyone else during my session.

Accounting has taught me little in my life, but there is one lesson I do remember: FIFO - first in, first out. If you got there first, you owe it to your fellow poopers to get out of there without making a fuss in a timely fashion. Pooping at home can be a relaxing event, complete with appropriate reading material and/or tunes and/or the phone next to the toilet. However, in a public setting, I find that my rule of thumb is to do my business and move on. That being said, you will often encounter dawdlers.

Perhaps the sports section is a particularly good read in the morning. Perhaps you work in a plant and the dude next to you decides to spend his 15 minute break napping on the throne. Or, perhaps, the porcelain pedestal is the ideal place to contemplate page 784 of War & Peace. Regardless, there is always the possibility that your fellow man will not abide by your code of conduct for PPP. It is the one scenario for which there is no easy answer. What if you both decide to pack up at the same time? Do you really want to know who it was in the next stall that made all those strange sounds? Can you work comfortably with that individual for the rest of your day/year/career?

My answer: Anticipation, and speed with purpose. Do what you have to, but remember that minimized contact with fellow dumpers will avoid future awkward situations. Unless someone rips a memorable fart - then you can applaud.

Well, fellas it has been a year and two days since we started the Moon Tower. It has been great. It is one of the little things that I look forward to everyday. I get home from the studio, grab a beer, sit down in front of the screen, check my email, desperately try not to surf for porn, then see if there is anything new on the Moon Tower, usually there is nothing, but when there is something it is really funny (sexual decathlon) or really touching (pictures of my honourary nephews). In a tribute to our blog, I am reposting Slippy's inaugural post from Sept 2, 2003:

Welcome to the Moon Tower! Well, all I'm saying is that I want to look back and say that I did it the best I could while I was stuck in this place. Had as much fun as I could while I was stuck in this place. Played as hard as I could while I was stuck in this place. Dogged as many girls as I could while I was stuck in this place...

Thanks for starting this Slip! Also, I feel like a bit of a heel, but I need to wish you a belated Happy Birthday and a Happy Anniversary to you and Kirsten! We'll have to do a bit of celebrating next Friday.

You guys rock!

Fellas,

I see the chit chat for the Jack Johnson weekend has already begun. I am looking forward to some merriment and debauchery. I would suggest that once the event is a little closer we can plan a time for meeting at 208 Niagara Street to arrange parking etc and then head over to the concert.

We should definetly do breakfast on Saturday morning and you are both welcome to stay Saturday. We could hit a patio on Queen Street and then head back to my place for a BBQ as the sun goes down.

Dudes,

We might have a crink in the works for our pre-party Friday night.

But it goes something like this...every year Cuppa Coffee enters work to an awards show called the BDAs (http://www.promax.org/awards_04bdafinals.asp) and this year we were nominated for 14 awards! This is more than any other studio in North America! The awards show is on Thursday night in NYC, so my boss is flying us via private jet to attend the ceremonies then we fly back Friday evening. I am scheduled to be back in TO on Friday between 7-8pm. I am hoping that I can still make it down for Friday night as I don't want to miss out on the Thursday Night Club reunion tour. Brett, perhaps we can figure something out in terms of driving to London-town together as I fly in and out of the island airport.

I'll keep you posted as more details arise.

Apparently Colin is getting 6 kegs from Thames Valley brewing (buy 5 get one free), he is having Zepplinesque (a Zepplin tribute band who do all the tunes in calypso style), a BBQ with baby seal ribs and he is having a BJ closet hosted by a near sighted midget with a plush dolphin. I saw Ron Mann's doc "Go Further" oln Tuesday. It is about Woody Harrelson and some friends ridinf their bikes and driving a hemp fuelled bus along the US west coast. Great soundtrack. Some more information about the film and an organic lifestyle at www.voiceyourself.com.

On the website, Woody Harrleson asked himself and some friends what are the top 5 albums you would take to a desert island...here is the list. Micheal Franti sings in the film...amazing.

Song From the Front Porch - Michael Franti (2003)
Definitely an album for these times... Lead singer for Spearhead, Franti's acoustic outing offers hope, love and optimism as a way to transform our world...the tunes will stay in your head all day long. He's a gifted poet, a wise warrior and a true voice for peace.

EVERYONE DESERVES MUSIC - Spearhead (2003)
In the midst of all the madness in the world, this album provides solace and strength to keep doing what we are doing. For information on all Spearhead releases go to www.spearheadvibrations.com

Fight For Your Mind - Ben Harper (1995)
As the title suggests, it's a definite for any activist's collection.
www.benharper.net

Revelling/Reckoning - Ani diFranco (2001)
A two disc set of spunky soulful tunes from one of our favorite female warriors. Ani used to bill herself as the one woman punk rock band. Check her out!
www.righteousbabe.com

The ID - Macy Gray (2001)
Filled with upbeat funk and mellow soul and exquisitely crafted songs about love and sex, with a little violence and a lot of humor. Check out our favorite, track #3, psychedelic disco-soul anthem "Sexual Revolution."

Esperanza - Manu Chao (2001)
Translation: Hope...Spanish blood born in Paris, Manu Chao possesses a powerful sound and passion that inspires the spirit. This disc will remain in rotation for a long time to come. Check out his previous release, Clandestino (1998).

Odelay - Beck (1996)
Perfect road trip music for the back roads into the unknown. Beck samples from every possible wacky source imaginable (and unimaginable), which just makes the ride crazier.

Party Music - The Coup (2001)
The original cover art for Party Music, planned long before the events of September 11th, and originally intended to go to press on that fateful day, featured an image of the Twin Towers exploding, with the two rappers posturing in front of them. . .one holding conductor's batons, the other holding a detonator. A last minute phone-call stopped the presses and the cover was redesigned. The Coup knows the secret to effective politicization: before you can change people's minds, you have to engage them.

Trojan Dub Box Set Volume 2 (2000)
One of at least 10 3-CD box sets issued by Trojan recently, a testament to the vastness of their vaults.  The Dub Box Set, however, also reveals their limitations, as each of these 3 CDs seems to contain the same artists -- Roots Radics, The Upsetters, Gregory Isaacs, King Tubby, Tommy McCook & The Aggrovators, Sly & The Revolutionaries, The Observers, et al.  Sound good?

The Sigur Ros Albums
The phenomenal Icelandic group.

Chants of India - Ravi Shankar
Produced by George Harrison, this is ideal yoga music - especially if your "OM" is off key ;)

JUST FOR FUN

Poetic Champions - Van Morrison (1987)
A must for any Morrison fan and anyone who appreciates timeless music. Van not only sings, but plays the alto sax, guitar, piano and harmonica. Graceful, beautiful and soothing to the soul. A masterpiece.

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd (1973)
A monumental musical journey that allows the sometimes distracted mind and wary spirit back to a place of all knowing. Get your refreshments and friends and start the album on the MGM lion's third roar of THE WIZARD OF OZ with the film's volume turned off.

The Wall - Pink Floyd (1979)
Along with the feature film, this album artfully addresses the severity of social conformity and government control.

The Beatles
The whole collection; we started to list out our favorites and it ended up being their entire collection!

One from the Vault - The Grateful Dead (1975)

Listener Supported - Dave Matthews (1999)

Songs of Freedom - Bob Marley (1992)

Babylon by Bus - Bob Marley (1978)

Power in Numbers - Jurassic 5 (2002)

Sandinista - The Clash (1980)

Dudes,

I am burning out in a hurry. Been working minimum 12hr days, and getting that dragging feeling. That's why I haven't been in contact much lately.

Was just looking at this and thinking, "man, what a whiny little bitch", especially after readin' the Dubby comment. Sorry, gents, I didn't realize how easy I really had it.

I still miss you, though. Love the whiny little biatch!

Touch me babe. Both ways. Yeah, there. Again.

Whats up Gents ? Thought Id put a quick shout out, as Im bored as shit this afternoon. Wondering if we are working our way to any monumental plans this summer ? Read HOUSE BOAT TRIP. Weekends are filling up fast and wallet is emptying equally as fast. Have you guys given any thoughts to trying to get something going ? Lets try and narrow down some dates or decide what we want to do...at least get some banter going !
Keep in mind the bash in London on Saturday June 26th. I am hoping guys can come together...potentially early Saturday afternoon for a little pre-party (and of course to put out the balloons, chips and lemonade?)

You'll never fucking guessed what happened to me today. I know you are sitting there with your mouth wide open wondering, "Wha Happened!?". Let me fucking tell you!

I am walking to work this morning and I see this big limo pull up at Queen and Spadina. I am crossing the street and the driver rolls down the window and calls me over. He ask me, "Where is For You Eyes Only?" I give him the directions and keep walking. I go into the coffeeshop and get my coffee and I come back out and the limo has gone round the block and is now on Queen right where I am standing. The driver sees me again and says, "Hey thanks for the directions, you wanna come?" I think about for a sec and ask who is in the back. The driver just tells me to get in.

I get in the fuckin' limo and inside is this fucking rasta dude and a couple of his homies (a bit like Harris' buddies). I am trying to figure out who the main dude is. He is older, he's got dreads, and he's talking on a cell phone and coughing. They are smoking this huge joint and they pass it to me. Remember this is before 9:00am! One of the guys buddies says to me, "so you're gonna come and see the titties with us?" I cough up a lung of smoke and say, "sure, I am in, but I am more of an ass man myself." The older dude laughs his fuckin ass off, kinda like Colin at 361 and I fucking freeze cuz I realize I am in the limo with Bob fucking Marley! Apparently he didn't die and he has been living in Northern Ontario for all these years in a log cabin and comes into Toronto to see the strippers every so often.

So...I am looking at throwing a big backyard party at my place this summer ! Tentatively looking at Saturday June 26th at this point. Pretty much planning on inviting everyone I know, including everyone from my office. Pam and Ethan will be at the cottage. Just starting to put some plans in the works. You guys should consider coming !!! Now I certainly cant promise as high-falootin' a party as the Browns throw at Christmas, but I do anticipate a good mix of barbeque, Budweiser and lawn chairs....

Think about it. More details to follow.

The Fight Party was a good time this year. It was this past Saturday. It was a long one. I was out until 3:30am. Too much night air. It was a great atmosphere. Huge banners hanging from the ceiling, caged wrestling ring, a full stage, a merch table and a bar. The Illuminati played a intimate show of classy rawk. Good times!

Any thoughts on activities for the upcoming Thursday night weekend? Wooderson is heading to T.O.on Friday night. I am sure we are going to take it easy and maybe take in a few drinks at a local or watch a movie or just sit around the dining room table.

Slip, when do you think we can get Saturday started? What time are going to head in to T.O.? I thought it might be good to order in some food or if it is warm enough I could fire up the BBQ. Any requests for food? So we could go out for some drinks or sit around the dining room table.

Let's get the chatter going. Both my email addresses are back in business.

PS Bring any new MP3 finds. I have a lot of good stuff as well.

B - I have again gone through the process of renting and playing both NHL2004 and ESPN Hockey (NHL 2K4) for PS2. I had heard lots of things about how NHL2004 was a vast improvement over last year...but I didnt see it, and am probably going to take the plunge on 2K4. Much better realism in my mind. I think If I lived with someone who I could play against it would be a harder decision but 2K4 it is.
I am dying to start trying some online play with the PS2...

Dudes,

I have done a plant tour! I know the Caramilk secret!

I moved from my desk to the other side of the room to retrieve a print-out from the printer! Then I climbed three flights of stairs to attend an exciting meeting to discuss data integrity - it nearly blew my mind! Later today I am probably going to sit on my fat ass and surf the Internet. Crazy.

Now I am sitting at my desk contemplating what chocolate bar I will munch on next. I have probably gained 50 lbs. in the last few weeks, but it doesn't show (much). Put in your orders for choco bars now, and I will fulfill your choco dreams.

See you soon!

Dudes,

I have rode an elephant! I sat on the head and had the huge trunk between my legs!

We moved from Chaing Mai to Bnagkok a few days ago. Did a whirlwind tour of Bangkok seeing markets, temples, palaces and the famous floating markets. Crazy.

Now we are on the island of Ko Chang on a little beach with a few bungalows. We are heading out for a beach BBQ with fresh squid, prawns and barracuda on the menu!

See you soon!

It's me again come at ya from the land of Thai!

We moved from the town of Krabi and made our way to Sukhothai. We stayed for a couple of nights at a chilling little guesthouse cottage and landed in the middle of a big festival which was celebrated with a CNE style expo. They were selling everything from new Hondas to stir fried crickets. The next day we explored the ancient Sukothai ruins. We cruised around the 70 km square site by bike. Mine was a girl's bike with a bell!

We flew out of Sukhothai yesterday morning and landed in the northern city of Chaing Mai. We spent the afternoon getting settled into our guesthouse and wandering this city which is the second largest in Thailand.

Today we took a tour which had us up at the Golden Triangle. This is where Thailand meets Burma and Laos and home to the legendary Mae Khong. This area is also famed for the huge opium trade that it enjoyed in the past before everyopne thought exporting heroin wasn't good for the country's image! We even had the chance to take a quick boat ride over to Laos where we had a couple shots of COBRA whiskey...the cobra was in the bottle for proof. After Laos we headed to visit with some hilltribes in the mountainous area of northern Thailand.

We are here for a couple of more days then we head for Bangkok.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to post a 3rd installment!

Later gators!

Yo,

What's happening in the deep chill of Canada? Sarah and I arrived a few days ago and hopped on a plane heading south for the province of Krabi. We jumped on a longtail boat and ended up on Ton Sai beach. Besides the beach there was a small village of hippies and rock climbers. We stayed in a rickety old beach hut. We ate some amazing seafood under the stars and relaxed.

We packed up and moved camp to Phi Phi island. This is the place where they filmed "The Beach". We landed and headed straight away to the remote beach of Laemtrong. We upgraded our rustic hut for a deluxe bungalo with A/C, a hot shower and a fridge full of Singha beer! We spent a couple of days living like beach bums and snorkling the reef. The snorkling experience was a 180 compared to the screaming, piss my pants experience I had in Mexico a few years ago!

Now we are in the village of Krabi having a lazy day before we head to the Sukhothai ruins and then to Chaing Mai.

I'll try and post again soon. Can't wait to see you dudes when I get back!

I would like to put forth the first weekend in March as a date for the 3 of us to get together, either in Toronto or here in London ? The weekend in question is the 5-7th of March 2004 ? I am sure we will talk before then, but I just wanted to post something on the Blog...
Later.

Whats up gents ? Its been awhile since anyone posted so I thought Id just ramble...
We need to start working towards a March get together !?! The three of us haven't "hung" since September. Far too long. So with Warren the world traveller taking off for nearly a month, I think we should work on trying to nail down some time in March (perhaps revolving around 2 Birthdays) to get together in the T-dot. I will endeavour to give you both a call Sunday sometime to see what we can come up with even at least to get the ball rolling.
